Default Speed Fan Showing GPU Running Between 55-60 C.

I'm not for sure what the GPU is I assumed it's the Nvidia Geforce 8500 GT in the wife's PC. but, speed fan shows a little red flame for GPU and between 55-60 degrees C. I thought maybe there's just not enough air flow with just two small fans and just cramed full of wires. I thought about drilling some holes directly across from the graphics card and installing an 80mm. fan. If I do, should it blow in, or out or just trial and error? the PC is a HP Pavilion Elite m9152p model with the Intell Q6600 processor. the fan on the graphics card is working fine. also, the pc is connected to an HP w2408h modell 24" monitor. the processor seems to be running cool enough. Thanks for any help/ideas!

It is the Graphics Processing Unit. If you have a spare PCI slot next to the graphics card you can fit a PCI fan there, which blows out. Maplin sell one. You can also get several variable speed fans with thermal sensors if you have a vent anywhere. Does your case have provision for any more fans? Look inside, lower front, there is often a fan grill there.

or have a tidy up with a bunch of cable ties, its amazing what a effect a load of messy wires have on your internal airflow!

although to be honest, 55-60c isnt to bad for a graphics card, its a bit warm, but they generally run hotter than processors. i get the flame symbol on my gpu as well, i think speedfan is more orientated around cpu and board temps than graphics cards

The temperature is fine.

Well, I sure do appreciate all the valuable info. you people provide here on this forum! I don't have any places to install case fans but, I will un hook all the PS. wires and re route them and I do have one pci slot but, it will have another pci card between, it and the graphics card preventing direct air flow from pci card to the graphics. and due to the IO. plate holes and cut-outs, I can't rearange the pci-cards for direct air flow across the graphics card. she has had the PC. over a year now with no problems so, maybe it will be fine. I will keep a close eye on it and rearange the wiring. I may remove the sheath that the wires are grouped in as I Think, I will be able to adjust them for better air flow a lot easier. Once Again, Thanks fo teaching an old dog some new tricks!

No problems. Plus, don't forget that you can generally adjust the warning temperatures on these monitoring programs.

If it was running around 90-100 idle then you should be worried, 50c is nothing

Listen to Carbon and Social Warfare, your temps are fine.

Edit: While I know I have a slightly different GFX card, my temps are 61, 60, 63, 63 (four cards effectively). And I'm at as much of an idle as I get. They sky past that when i game for 8 hours lol.
