Default Suggestions for a New Graphics Card

I would go with 4GB of RAM unless there's some ridiculous markup - while it's gotten a little more expensive in recent months, the cost savings is usually pretty minimal for a 2x2GB set. It's like the difference between a 640GB WD drive vs a smaller drive - you save maybe $10 or $20, but you get half the capacity.

You're not going to run into any problems with 2GB, but I think it would have been better to go with the X2 240 and 4GB for a more balanced machine. :)

So Carbon, You think the x2 240 would be better than the x3. How about the x2 250 Would that be better still as it is not much dearer. Keep that mobo but put in 4 gig of ram?

The X2 250's difference isn't worth it even if the price difference is really really small. Unless it is exactly the same price, you can make up the meager 200MHz clock difference in under 30 seconds in the BIOS. Use the rest to go buy lunch or something.

And yeah, I'd do 4GB of RAM if the price difference isn't crazy, you just get better value and if you ever want to put in 2GB more RAM, DDR2 is getting more expensive.

We're good at persuading people to do that.
