OK, so heres the scoop. Im my current plan for my new build, i was going to get this GPU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102801
and although im am really unbiased about which one is better (ATI vs nVidia) I am leaning tward nVidia because i have been with them for a long time and they tend to have more optimised drivers and also have a lot of games that take advantge of their special capabilites, like Mirrors Edge (love that game) when they use the nVidia PhysX,
http://www.nvidia.com/object/nvidia_physx.html
or when they have things like this
http://www.nvidia.com/object/GeForce...sion_Main.html

and so many other amazing things that ATI just doesnt seem to have. its like when it comes to cards the preformance isnt that only thing that matters anymore, its the extra capibilities and games that take advantage of them that catches my eye.

and so i feel that ATI might not be right for me after all. What i am asking is this- is there a card from nVidia that can match the preformance and still be around the same price. hopefully something better than a GTX280.

also there are the free tech demo games http://www.nvidia.com/content/graphi...s/download.asp

Uh, the GTX 280 substantially outperforms the 4870. So no, there is not going to be something better than the GTX 280 at the same price as the 4870, but the GTX 260 216 is just as good as the 4870 and the same price.
