Heyy guys,

Basically just been given a Dell dimension C521 pc. its not a bad machine, but is currently running on built in graphics. Nvidia board and graphics chip, but obvously its not fantastic. problem is though, its a slimline case, only takes half-height, low profile or what ever you may want to call them cards. all the reasonable cards i can find are full size, is there such thing as a decent half height card? im not looking to do high level gaming, but something to free up the amount of RAM the onboard is munching up would be nice.
running on xp, and will probably be used for playing HD films on a tv, hence the need for a bit better card...

opps, nearly forgot to mention, its a PCIe x16 slot in the machine.

Cheers all,

MCTW

Basically, no. Every H/H card I have ever seen was a very low spec model.

dam it oh well, cant complain, 'twas free after all!
when you say very low spec, is that low enough to be worse than the performance of the built in chip do you reckon? or would i be downgrading...

Not worth changing type of low spec.

I saw something about this once on youtube I think it was, guy had a cable going from the slot to an external box, in which he'd mounted a full height card. Shouldn't be too tricky if you want something to keep you entertained.

I'll have a look around and see if I can find the video again.

They're actually pretty good now Dave: there's a 9800GT half height, as well as 9600GTs and 4650s.
