Hi guys,
i was thinking as Christmas nears a new graphics card would be a nice present for me.

I am at a loss as to what would be my best upgrade option. i have a limit of about $220 - $230 max.

i have a 4850 atm, but i don't know whether to go with
- another 4850 and putting them in CF
- a 4890
- a 5770
- or would i be best waiting till a 5870 or 5850 comes down to a slightly reasonable price.

i have a P5Q pro motherboard, and that has 2 PCIe x16 slots, however when in CF the slots are reduced to x8. will this noticeably affect performance?

5770 if you care about heat/power usage otherwise the 4890 will be a big improvement.

thanks carbon.
however wouldn't the 4850's in CF still be the fastest, even at with speed limited to x8?

Haha, no. Even disregarding heat, power, and the fact that Crossfire scales terribly, you're limited to 512MB of VRAM because multicard mirrors VRAM. This means that you'll be at maximum performing at the level of a 4870 512MB (which is below the performance of that 5770), and at worst performing at the level of one of your 4850s. As soon as you start cranking up AA/AF or playing any sort of game with big textures your framerate goes through the floor.

Crossfire sucks. No way around it. Always buy the best single card you can afford.

Just out of interest, is SLi much the same, or is it an ATi problem?
