Default Two monitors help?

Hey i was wondering when installing a second monitor do you need any hard/software or just plug them in and away you go? do you have to preset resolutions etc? and can you use a dvi and vga at the same time?...

Plug them in and go (driver will detect them), resolutions can be changed in Display, and it depends on the graphics card (best to pair up two of the same).

Goesn't matter if the two screens aren't the same though, I have a 19" as a main and a 17" as secondary, however they both have the same resolution. Only get the same if you think it'll look better or your looking to upgrade your current monitor or it is very good allready. Because it's a waste to pay for an old monitor to get the same as your current one because there will be ones better for not much more.

Im the same as thingle i had a 19in flat screen plus a 17 in crt but worked fine with the default res had no probs with it

i had no problems though i had to to go display manager in xp and enable it as a seperate monitor (no 2) not an extension of main monitor
