Default Upgrading card and not sure if it will work

Hello Everyone

A few days ago i bought another PC but it came with geForce 7500LE PCI-E 16. This is a very useless card as it doesnt play any of the new games so now i am thinking of upgrading to XFX GForce 8600GT PCI-E. I also know that i need a new PSU as this one is only 250W and i was thinking of buying a cheap 500W one.

Now my question is:

1) Is it worth going to 8600GT or it will not be a big difference.
2) I have a inter motherboad Pachard Bell OEM, will it support it?
3) Will the 500W PSU be ok, i only have 2 HDDs, 1 DVD and the card.

I have the links below of the hardware i wanted to get, please have a look and give me some feedback, if it is worth or not.

Thank You

GForce 8600GT

Answers to your questions are, in order:

1. maybe
2. probably
3. maybe

For #1 - the 8600GT is not a very good card. In fact, you'd be better off running a 7950. If you're going to upgrade, upgrade well - don't buy a card that's already outdated. Go for the 8800GT, as the 8600GT will perform decently but not admirably on not only next-gen games but current gen games.

For #2. You specified you already had a PCI-E x16 card, so I assume you have a PCI-E x16 slot, so it should work.

For #3. See #1. At least go 600W. 500W is cutting it very very close for a lot of newer hardware. That PSU looks off-brand (see: junk) and only has one SATA connector - hope 2/3 of your peripherals are running IDE! Go to NewEgg and find a good one.
