I currently have an EVGA 7950GT 512MB. I want to upgrade to the 8800GTS 512MB 256-bit. Im hoping this will be a nice edition to Crysis and hoping Vista Ultimate 64-bit works out ok.

What do you think of this card upgrade?

the 8800gt gives the best bang for the buck. you won't be sorry. some people suggest that the 8800gts is the better buy.

here's the thing with that little story...and all of this is opinion. so don't take it too seriously. but just hear me out.

the 8800gts is in fact better than the 8800gt. it has a few more pixel pipelines, and other small details. so it's better.

BUT....on 90% of the games it was tested on, it only got about 2 frames per second more. and other games were giving out well over 100 fps. the differences there were 20 frames or so. at over 100fps, you won't notice any difference between 100, and 120.

so for an extra 100 bucks, the 8800gts is not worth the money. if it was another 25-50 bucks, then i'd buy it. but 100 bucks? eff that.

i'd stick with an 8800gt. it gives amazing performance. again...you won't be sorry if you get it.

Thanks for your advice. Would EVGA be the best option? Seem like they build rock solid cards and I love my 7950GT.

If it helps any I second that opinion.
The 8800GT is deffinetly worth the buy! You will not have to upgrade you graphics for a long time.

Just saw your post, XFX and EVGA are probably the best card manufatures, so you can't go wrong with getting one of those.

BWAHAHAH! hey there sam :D. thanks for the vote of confidence.

well, as to the question, EVGA is decent. there's a couple of main manufacturers that you can go with. BFG tech is THE best when it comes to quality cards. EVGA is up there too, though they're obviously not as good as BFG. i trust PNY. they've made some pretty decent things.

but if i were you, i'd go with the ones you can trust the best. and those two are EVGA, and the best in the business. BFG.

so just pick one. you can't really go wrong. and in the worst case, simply send the broken card in for a replacement. Newegg.com is very good about this type of stuff.

Ok one more question on this...

I have found an 8800GT but the memory size is only 256MB. Would this make a big difference between the 256MB on the GT and 512MB on the GTS? Also, the BFG 8800GT is as almost as high as the 8800GTS from EVGA. Crazy...

yes it would make a big difference. the more built in video memory the better it will perform. the 8800gt comes in a 512mb variant so i'm not sure why you're bothering with the 256mb ones.

the cheaper ones i've seen on newegg were 259.99 and i saw that one from PNY. not the brand you wanted, but hey...whatever...it's cheap.
