hello my school have a TV statiuon called KTV (koda TV) and one one of the computers that i work on the graphics cards died or thats what the teachers think we have a rule that if any piece on hardware brakes and anyone want it the have to yell 'Dibs!!!!" and i did the problem with the graphics card is that the capsater blew a little bit with a resolt of the screen flashing like a strobe light. i have heard that if you sotter the capaster shut that it will work then i dont have that mush info on the card the only thing i know is that it is a AGP card with a AVG and DVI ports on the back thank you

You cannot solder a capacitor shut, you have to replace it. Capacitors are reasonably tough components so even replacing it may not help as something else has probably blown and taken the capacitor with it.

Capacitors are very cheap but you have to get the correct one. You need to know its capacitance, its voltage, and its type. Its capacitance is printed on it - e.g. 330uf and so is its voltage -e.g. 16v. As for type, if its can shaped then its probably an electrolytic. As i said before, because they are reasonably tough components, replacing one may well not fix the problem. I will just add, i have spent 20+ years in the electronics industry so i know what im talking about. ![]() Last edited by Rik : 19th Sep 2007 at 10:20 AM.
