BTW do you think that if they replace the PSU or graphics card it will be okay? I might not be able to go to the shop for some time because I have some assignments to complete and this computer is the only one connected to a printer.

It's got to be either one of the two. So yeah, just bring it in they should figure it out and swap out whatever needs swapping. There's pretty much zero chance you'll get it back and it won't work unless it's overheating (which we pretty much ruled out) or they were negligent. You might test it out there if you can to make sure. It's difficult to say either way because random freezes tend to indicate PSU but artifacts tend to indicate VRAM, but if you've got a parts warranty make sure they honor it fully.
One of my rules for computer repair is "It's always the power supply. Always." When something hardware goes wrong, it's almost always because whoever built it decided a cheapo budget PSU would be fine and it blew a capacitor during the night. That thing takes a lot of abuse, shut on and shut offs, constant fluctuations in power usage, and comparatively not a lot else tends to break (CPUs and RAM don't just die unless you've cooked them mostly because they're all one piece, video cards can because of their relative complexity but not often). I think I've sold more Corsair power supplies by proxy than their marketing team combined. Good luck.

Edit: Lol I keep on forgetting to add things. How long do you think it would take for them to see if there is a problem in the PSU? Because if it's fast enough I might go tomorrow. Can't risk not completing the assignment though. |

Highly, highly unlikely drivers would cause artifacts. And by highly I mean pretty much impossible.

BTW, I think you are right about a cheap PSU. I opened it up and the brand was 'Amaroo.' Googling it came with some hotel or something, so I guess it's not really a computer manufacturing company. I still haven't gone to get it fixed yet, still working on that assignment.

I just went to the shop. They said they wouldn't be able to find the problem, so they replaced the graphics card. I told them it could be the PSU, but they said I couldn't. So my graphics card is replaced (same one) and all I have to do is play more games and see if the problem persists. Do you think they are correct in saying that it couldn't be the PSU and they can't find the problem? They did tell me to bring the computer back if it still doesn't work but they said I would have to leave it for 2-3 weeks while they sent the card back and tested it for problems. If the problem does keep on appearing, do you think I should:
1) Get my own new PSU 2) Get a new graphics card 3) Leave it there for the 2-3 weeks 4) Do nothing I'm still in the process of 'testing' for the problem. (Playing more games) |
