What widescreen montior should I purchase for a Dell Dimension 2400? Would like to find one that would install easily. Would probably get one about 18 or 19 inches in size, but am flexible in that. Have a good Proview Monitor now, but is square screen 17 in.

I'm not a beginner, but I'm not sure I'm intermediate either. LOL

How much are you willing to spend?
What do you want to use the monitor for? (what applications etc..)

I don't need anything fancy. I just want to replace my 17 inch Proview square screen with a widescreen monitor. My uses are pretty normal, I surf the web, download music once in awhile. I don't have a DVD Player/Burner, but may upgrade to one. Willing to spend up to $140 or so.

I'm just wondering if converting to a widescreen monitor is worth the trouble or should I stick with what I have. We just do normal stuff, like Picasa, etc.

Smaller screens are usually pretty similar (look at what's best reviewed/cheapest on NewEgg), but if you can swing the extra $20 or so, this monitor's a pretty great steal.

I think upgrading a monitor is one of the better upgrades you can do - being able to see more of what you're working on or more of a webpage is an obvious plus, and monitor prices are pretty low as of now.

Thanks for the reply. I guess I'm wondering if when I get the monitor, I'll also need a new video card. I'm finding out that some monitors come either adapter plugs or both types of video plug connectors. Appreciate the feedback.

The old standard is VGA. The new standard is DVI or HDMI. Most monitors will either have both (like the one I linked), or an adapter. You should be okay using the onboard graphics on the 2400.

That is helpful. The monitor, should I get it, will have to come from Best Buy because I have just had a birthday and I got gift cards from the kids and wife at Best Buy. However, your information has told me quite a bit and I see that Best Buy has several monitors that should do the trick, including a Dell with the proper inputs, etc.

I really appreciate your help and I feel more comfotable about upgrading my monitor. I have a few other options in mind, but the Monitor seems to be a good idea right now.

Thanks!
