Hello all,

I would like to buy a better graphics card than I have but I have no idea what sort of card will fit my computer.

The display adapter i have now is: Intel 82810 graphics controller. Am I correct in thinking a graphics card and a display adapter are the same thing?

My Main Circuit Board is a: MICRO-STAR INTERNATIONAL CO, LTD MS-6178. Is this my mother board???

Are there different cards that will only fit in certain computers?
How do i know what graphics card will be good for me?

I really have no idea about computers so any help would be much appreciated.

Cheers!

I personally like the NVidia GeForce products. It all depends on what you want to do with it. No matter what I like the NVidia GeForce graphic cards the best tho.
Here is a card that is suppose to be a good card. Thats what I heard I dont have it myself. Just take a look in your computer and see if it looks like the card could fit into your computer right!

If you really don't know, I'm not sure you should be giving advice...the 9400GT is a HTPC card.

OP, your computer is way too far out of date for any modern graphics card or upgrade at all. The motherboard is a socket 370 and it has no PCI-E slots.

Carbons advice is sound, if you don't have a PCI-E slot no current GFX cards will physically fit.

Time for a major upgrade, motherboard, processor, RAM and GFX card I'm afraid.

What is a PSU?

Am I better off buying a new computer?

Buy the way... thanks to everyone for sharing their knowledge.

A PSU is the power supply unit that powers all the components.

You would essentially be looking at buying a new computer. The only part you would end up keeping in an "upgrade" would be the case anyway, and those are cheap.

I use an Nvidia GeForce 5700 LE. It is an old card, but still performs very well for standard business applications. It has lasted me forever, and is still running strong after years and years. Nvidia makes quality cards, and any of the new GeForce technology cards would be ideal!
