Default Whats the best graphics card i can get for $420?

Ah, that's a better monitor then, but even so, i would have thought a single 4870 would suffice, but if your desperate, go for crossfire, or if you are desperate, and can spend a little more, go for a single 4870x2....

In that case, a GTX 280 is probably the best bet.

Yea, I suppose it would be, but a GTX 280 costs about $420, but you can get a pair of 4870's for that.

And enjoy the wonderful world of microstutter? Yeah, I'd pass on that.

i went on toms hardware and looks at benchmarks. the GTX280 surpasses dual 4850's (which would have cost me more than a singe GTX280 since i was getting the 1GB version of the 4850)

I was recommending two 4870's not 4850's, a single 4870 is only slightly behind a GTX280.

http://www.tomshardware.com/charts/g...,758.html?prod[2060]=on&prod[2114]=on

from what i see, when playing at ri res, the 4870 being to show significantly lower FPS.

Yea, Crysis is very Nvidia optimised, but I thought the card I had linked to was the 1GB version but it isn't, sorry, the 1GB version performs close to the GTX280, the 512MB version doesn't perform much better than the 4850. Take a look at this review, the 1GB 4870 is in the first few, when it's behind the GTX280, it's only by a couple of FPS, Except for crysis, but like we said eariler, Crysis is Nvidia enhanced.
