Default Would the 8800 gts/gt be a solid upgrade?

Hello, recently my 8600GT crashed and im using my friends 8400GS, its not an awful card but i do notice lag and some graphic lag, was wondering if the 8800 gts/gt would be a solid upgrade? I cant upgrade my psu yet and the cards say they need 400 min. ...

I cant upgrade my psu yet and the cards say they need 400 min. psu but i ran my 8600GT on what i have no and it was fine. and the 9400 i dont even want to mess with i think i will need a new psu for that.
