4gb will be useless compared to 6GB-8GB. With 4GB you're getting little to no increase because all the memory registers are doubled, but with over that you'll see a definite increase.

I agree but try telling him that lol I've had 4gb 3gb and now I'm at 2 and to be honest I've noticed 5-10% difference personally.

It also depends on if you're running x64 too, without it anything over 2gb (technically 3-3.75, but in practice 2 or so) will be useless. A lot of people just pop in 4gb thinking it'll make a difference without changing their OS.

Can i point out, in this day and age, having 16GB RAM is incredibly stupid. An OS can only use so much ram. Even if you set your PC to use more ram, it still wont use every last MB. The most amount of RAM windows NT (2000, XP, Vista etc) is around 8GB. Any more than this and the computer 'forgets' another 8GB is kicking around. Save yourself money, just buy 4X 2GB Sticks, Nice, 1200MHZ sticks. I personally recommend Corsair RAM.
