Default 45nm Cpu in my mobo ?

Im looking for a new CPU for my Mobo Since my Pentium D is Good but i need more speed for all those new games i wan t a a Core 2 Duo 8400 3.0ghz 45nm but im not sure if my mobo can handle 45nm cpu's i have a EVGA 680i SE i just wanna make sure i can handle it

i dont think it can the new 780i board will however weh did you purchase this motherboard as you may be legible for the step up program

your mobo is a LGA775 right? if so, then YES! i want that CPU as well.

Both above posters are wrong. The way to tell is if your motherboard supports a 1333 speed FSB.

Weather you mobo supports 1333 FSB or not doesn't matter. is he even guna get RAM that goes at the speed? its just an option, not a need.

A chipset that does not support 1333 FSB will not support a 1333 FSB processor, hence it will be impossible to run a Wolfdale in that motherboard.

Fortunately, I believe his does.

then how do you explain all the people with my MOBO that have the rev. 2.2 that don't support that FSB speed and they still have core 2 duos that have that FSB? they may not use that speed but either way they can use that kind of CPU.

Actually My Mobo can Handle 1333 fsb it was engineerd for the core 2 duo overclocker. im still a learner at computer stuff so im still a noob :P

You're right - it'll run. Still, it'd be a waste to pay for a 45nm CPU and then only use it at a 1066 FSB speed..

not really. you'd still see a huge performance upgrade if your like me and have an E6300 OC 3Ghz. surprisingly, running things like RAM at 800MHz with a max FSB like that doesn't reduce performance much.
