As many of you can see, in my sig there is a link to the hardware i am going to be using for my next build. i dont not actually have any of the hardware yet, but i will one day have it. just want to make that clear. moving on. I am looking to make the E8400 CPU OC to 4Ghz. I know that one would hit the wall at about 3.6GHz with no over volting. With the hardware i have chosen in my sig (click on the links for better info on parts) at what voltage would i be estimating that i would be at to achive this speed for my CPU voltage, North Bridge voltage, RAM voltage, etc voltage? From what i understand, its commin to see the CPU at 1.36v apposed to its stock voltage when at 4GHz. as for RAM and NB, i would assume it would vary vastly between MOBO to MOBO. If i do the math right (please correct me if im wrong) since the multiplyer is 9 on this CPU

4000Mhz / 9 = 444.44Mhz

double 444.44MHz to get the double data rate and i would find that RAM running at 888.88MHz would give me a 1:1 FSB to RAM speed ratio.

seeing as the RAM I will be using only runs stock at 800MHz they will be overclocked a little, but thats shouldn be a problem because the RAM i selected is good for overclocking. they run a 2.1v which stock is higher than most RAM (ex: Corsair XMS2 stock at 1.8v) but since the OC isnt really that much for the RAM i dont think any RAM overvolt is really nessesary.

that just leaves the NorthBridge. I never used this baord before so im not too fimiliar with it. What would you estimate based on other boards, the amount of volts extra this thing will need to be stable?

Any help is much appreciated. if i am wrong on any of the info feel free to correct me. I'm all ears.

This is what I have mine running at 24/7 although I have an E8500
RAM@2.2v

EDIT: and for a mobo I would go with the Biostar Tpower

nice. I see your running with an 8x multipliers, why is that? the E8500 has higher ones doesn't it? or am i wrong? as for the motherboard you showed me, it seams very nice, but I chose the one i plan on getting for more than just its OC potential. I'm very very picky when it comes to the layout of the MOBO. plus it has many other helpful features. if it comes to a point where i for some reason need to cut back on cost i will take it into consideration though.

There is really no reason you'd have to go over 1.3V on a E0 E8400. SocialWarfare, did you have a really big FSB hole or something?

when i comes to overclocking to 4GHz on this CPU, its seems that most everyone is over 1.3v

Well you shouldn't go too far over it. 1.3-1.32V is usually enough to hit 4ghz+.

The max is 1.3625v on the E8500 which I can get to around 4.1, but I know of people running them at 1.38v for months with no issues.
I can just change the multi, so no hole, just wanted an extra 300mhz

really? where did you find that info? everywhere i looked i found it was at least 1.36v to hit 4GHz stable.

Personal experience and that of a few friends all with UD3Ps.
