so lets say you have a intel quad 3ghz 45nm and a quad 3ghz 65nm how much difference in proformace will there be?

Little to none at the same clock speed. The advantage is that the 45nm can be clocked much higher. You'll also have a lot less heat.

The 45nms can go to 4.2 on air if you have a nice motherboard. Higher if you have a _really_ nice motherboard and good cooling (AC7/Tuniq).

ooooo would the 790i be considered as a really nice motherboard or as only a nice motherboard

It's not a bad chipset. Either that or the X38. It depends on the motherboard, so just check around and read reviews.

To make it even more confusing though, there are some really nice DDR2/DDR3 motherboards using the P35 chipset, and you're not always limited to single PCI-E lane. For example, this has 4 PCI-E x16s and tons of SATA slots. The only downside is DDR3's price which has been dropping in the last few weeks.
