Hi,

I have just updated from a XP1600 to a XP2700. The computer will start, but gets stuck on the Windows startup screen.

Can anyone help me......

Are you sure this CPU is fully compatible with your board?
Is it receiving the correct voltage?
Are the clock settings correct in BIOS?

Thanks, I have checked all that and it's ok.

The computer starts with the dos windows window, but when the graphical interface for windows comes on, the progress bar sticks half way

This could very well be faulty hardware, or what windows perceives as faulty hardware.

Are you absolutely sure the cpu is installed correctly?

Changing only the CPu will have no effect on Windows drivers or it's loading.

Sounds like it's freezing, are you sure you put the fan back on ok.

Thanks,

I have put a new, better fan on. The CPU temp is showing 48 degrees.

The only way I have found to get into Winows is to disable the LAN in the bios.

However, I now have no USB at all, and have tried re-installing the motherboard drivers.

I'm going to install a copy of Windows XP later.
