Default AMD and Intel?

Hey guys,

I just had a quick question for anybody who can help me out. I picked up an AMD machine a little while back (Two years?) and of course, soon after the warranty was no longer effective, the motherboard died on me. I've brought it into a computer shop to get a professional opinion and they told me my motherboard was fried and so was one of my two video cards. His best recommendation was to buy a new one. (Hah. Go figure, huh?)

So, this is my question. How many of the components in my machine would work in an Intel based machine? He said the video cards are only AMD compatible so that one is out. Same with the processor. What about the Hard drive and Ram? The sound card is independant from the motherboard too. Is there hope for that? Network card? If there is any more information I can give, I can crack it open to find out.

I know alot of these components are probably circumstancial on the actual part so if you guys can't give me a definite answer, that's no problem, I'm just curious to know.

Hi your hard drive and ram should be ok but watch the mother board you buy as there are several types of Ram, sound card should be ok as well. I've not heard of a graphics card being compatible with either AMD or Intel only. Unless you have a SLI or Crossfire board I would think he means the onboard vid so your "other" card should be compatible. again 2 types of fitting though so more need to be careful what you buy. we could really do with more info on your current board like the make and model.
