Default AMD vs INTEL

Hi everyone,
what is a better processor to get, AMD or INTEL, i want to mainly use my computer for gaming. Also what is the best OS that fully utilises your hardware ( i prefer to use Ubuntu(Linux) ) but i am not sure, cause i've heard that 32 bit Windows XP can only use about 3 Gigs worth of RAM etc etc. Also what OS would be best for Quad Core.
Thanks in advance

i would say that intel is the best, and i would prefer to use XP over vista for gaming.
