I have an intel Q6600. The stock heat sink wasn't doing the job. So I put in a Zalman but the fan connector is only three pins and you connect it to something else that you stick on the side of the case to turn it up and down depending on what your doing. but to be honest I can't be messed about turning it up and down, and don't want some ugly thing on the side of my case.

So i thought about getting a new one and heard so much good stuff about the Arctic Freezer Pro 7. Can anyone tell me if it connects with a 4 pin or 3 pin connector? As i want the computer to turn it up and down. If its no what im looking for can someone show me one that suits my needs.

Thanks CG

AC7 is connected via a 3 pin header.

Connect it to the 'CPU_FAN' header on the motherboard and the rpm will be dynamically adjusted depending on load on the cpu.

oh i did do that with the zalman. But it seems to be running very loud and fast. I guess I still have that problem with the CPU getting way to hot.

The problem you're having with the Zalman is that whilst it's pretty to look at it's also pretty much useless for a quad.

The stock coolers are, in a word, lousy.

Yup, my fave hsf on the market. Ideal for an overclocked dual, or a stock clocked quad, unless noise doesn't matter to you in which case it'll handle an oc'd quad.

Other than that, there's the Tuniq Tower. Awesome hsf, but very heavy and very expensive with only around 5% more cooling potential than a AC7.

No problem.

Get some Arctic Silver 5 T.I.M as well. May as well do it right if you're going to do it.

You could but it's not for the fainthearted first time around and it only (usually) yields a small reduction in peak temps (as opposed to idle temps, which tend to be pretty low, comparatively speaking, anyway).

Glass, water, washing up liquid and sandpaper will all be required, also an anti static cable and maybe some tim cleaner.

Nah, for the rewards v potential problems it's not worth it.
