| hi, i'm new here (and in "advanced PC config ") to take it easy with me anyway, i'll cut to the chase. i bought myself a new PC (config made in a rush, i made some mistakes but that's history already) and i'll highlight these : E6750, Asus P5k SE. 2x1 gb Kingston Hyperx dual channel PC2-8500. i've been through hell to get the memory run at 1066 Mhz(bios shows 1067). for 3 days, when i got home from work i googled asus p5k series+1066 memory and i tried almost anything. i set the memory on 1067, manuam timings 5-5-5-15, voltage 2,2 V. nothing works. i managed to make it work @ 1000 mhz but i eventually get a blue screen and forced reboot or just jams. each time i choose 1067 frequency it would say "overclocking failed" just after it boots and when i chose 1150 it loaded bios and then it stayed it blocked in a back screen. there are some things i haven't tried. some forums say that you have to lower CPU FSB to 266 in order to make the ram work at 1066 (on asus p5k series or in general, i don't know that) and another fellow that has the same mobo said that it eventually worked for him after he changed the ram from the yellow slots to the black slots. now, i'd rather not do that since i plan on getting another 2 gb of ram. the 2nd part of my question would be ( if i eventually manage to make it run at 1066 with your help) if i should lower CPU frequency to match the ram frequency or leave it as it is. i'm interested in performace in games, nothing else. the 3rd option would be to return the pc2-8500 memory and get 4 gigs of pc2-6400 but i'm trying to leave this as a last resort option. thanks alot and sorry for my poor english :) |

| well if your cpu is overclocked you need to set your ram frequency lower but because the cpu frequency if higher than it should be the ram will still run at 1066 or at least something close to that, or you could just set your cpu clock to factory settings. this happened to me with my 533 ram and it gave me regular bluescreens with no cpu overclocking so i underclocked the ram to 400 and it worked!

| my CPU is stock (E6570. FSB 1333) and the RAM i bought is PC2-8500 stock also (1066 frequency). i tried the ram on an older ASUS mobo model ( P5B) and with 2,1 V it works flawless at 1066 and passes MEMTEST without errors. let me think about BIOS: AI overclocking - M CPU ratio control - M Ratio Cmos setting - 8 FSB strap to northbridge - Auto ( tried 333/266) FSB frequency - 333 (tried 266 in combination with FSB at NB set to AUTO then set to 266 manually) PCIE frequency - AUTO DRAM frequency - 1067 DRAM command rate- auto /tried 1t/ tried 2t in various combinations dram timing control - M (tried auto also) cas latency - 5 ras to cas delay - 5 ras precharge - 5 ras active time - 18 (tried 15, 16) etc etc etc DRAM static read control - disabled / tried enable also CPU sprea d spectrum - tried auto / disabled PCIE spread spectrum - tried auto / disabled CPU voltage- auto CPU voltage refference- auto CPU voltage dumper - auto cpu pll voltage- auto dram voltage - 2.10 / 2.20 / 2.25 NB voltage - auto SB voltage - auto also i DIsabled memory remap from NB on the P5B all i had to do is tweak memory voltage to 2.1V and change frequency to 1067 and it worked |
