The bog standard version's a bit dodgy - I had one but when I installed it the video circuit wasn't working. So I looked around and found many people with same trouble.

I've now got the P5QL PRO - which worked fine first go (it was the RAM that failed..) so I would reccommend up or downgrading from the standard board.

I've used a bunch of them before.

Admittedly most of those were Pro versions but I also haven't had problems with the bog standard ones. Seems like very little difference to me except the Pro one has connectors in far more sensible places and looks better (black).

Also have a look at the Gigabyte EP45-UD3P or DS3L

Or UD3L!

The pricing on the different models seems to be all over the wall in the UK as well, one supplier I buy from does the UD3P for the same price as the DS3L. Go figure.

thanks guys,

the UD3P looks like a great board but its a bit expensive over here.
the P5QL-PRO looks pretty good though and is cheaper than a P5Q.

so i'll look a little closer at the UD3L, DS3L and the P5QL-PRO

okay...
ive looked around a little and also found some more boards in my price range
so im currently looking at
Asus P5Q
Asus P5QL-PRO
Asus P5QL-E
ECS P45T-A
ASrock P45DE
Gigabyte EP45-UD3L
MSI P45 Neo-F
are any of these boards clearly better than the others.
i do plan on overclocking a bit as well.

Personally I would probably go with the P5Q Pro out of that list.

I would say avoid the ASRock and MSI ones. I find the MSI one to be a pain to overclock, especially if you don't have that much experience with overclocking. It makes things unnecessarily confusing.

The P5Q Pro is better then the P5Q so if it is cheaper then it is a no brainer between those two. But then again the Gigabyte UD3L is an excellent board as well. Whats cheaper with you?

the ASrock is the cheapest, followed by the ECS

the P5QL-PRO is $170 but its based on the P43 chipset, the P5Q is only $5 more and thats based on a P45 chipset. the UD3L is $180.

but i was interested in the P5Q because i've seen it for $175, when its regular price at other stores is well over $200
