I have just built a system and have the p5q board and an intel e8400 chip when i start it up the hardware monitor temperature starts shooting up and then trips out an alarm at 100c after less than 2 mins. using the stock cooler as i brok the coolmaster one
 Everything is plugged in fine but it still does it i dont know what to do now do i have a duff chip or board or am i doing something wrong Any help would be great this things got me so stresed

No no overclocking straight from the box and im pretty sure the HSF is on right everything looks bolted down properly

did you read the directions that came with the cpu? if your 100% shure that its all connected good them its most likley a bad motherboard scensor

i doubt even with no thermal paste the temps would be that high i know someone who knows someone how doesnt use thermal paste at alL!

The stock HSF's from Intel I believe do have some thermal paste on them. Are you sure it's pressed down firmly onto the CPU and that the blots are properly locked in?

Have a check of those bolts, try twisting them gently with your hands, if they move at all, they aren't in properly, if they are firm, they are good.

Its looking like a dodgy board sensor ive downloaded a temp program and ran it and its coming up 30c from the chip 32 from the mainboard sensor
Thank god thought my chip was dead when it came up 104c Thanks for the replies really appreciated Karma for all
