slot 1 - 512
2 - 512
3 - 1gb
4 - 1gb

^^stays on winfast logo screen

1 - 1gb
2 - 1gb
3 - 512
4 - 512

works BUT shows up as 2gb when going to properties on 'my computer', just did a crucial scan and it says

Maximum Memory Capacity: 16777216 MB
Currently Installed Memory: 3072 MB
Available Memory Slots: N.A.
Number of Banks: 4
Dual Channel Support: N.A.
CPU Manufacturer: AuthenticAMD
CPU Family: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+ Model 11, Stepping 2
CPU Speed: 2000 MHz

Best bet is to return the 1GB sticks, that's the simpliest way of finding out if they are dodgy or not.

You say the 1GB RAM components are DDR2 (probably 667s) PC2-5300.

You don't mention the specifications of the 512MB Sticks. :-(

sorry, they came with the com, they are also pc2 5300, when i bought the GB's i made sure the speed was the same, or atleast i think the number represents speed lol, they work together as right now i have 512's in slots 1 and 2 and then 1gb in slot 4 and its working fine however,

process of elimination.....

the 1gb i have not go in right now, caused blue screen alot last night even when it was in the same slot 4 as the other one is now, so i think ive narrowed it down again to one faulty stick, im going to take it down to some shop today, hes a great guy maybe check it for me

jusused the programe orthos you got on your download bit, checked both 1gb individually and they are fine, put them together and there is a error within 4 seconds, then i put 1gb and 2x512mb in leaving one slot open and its fine, it just seems these two 1gb memory sticks wont work together, i have noticed that the model number (the number under what appears to be a barcode, which is on a sticker on the ram stick) are different on the two 1gb sticks, i would of thought this would be a big deal as they are both identical otherwise

i may just another one and see what happens, student loan has its uses

cheers for the help guys!

just to finish this thread so you guys are updated, i bought another two value sticks, i made sure these sticks were kingston and were registered to kingston, since ive put them in there hasnt been one problem, so now ive got the two kingstons and one of my old sticks in all 1gb 5300, so it seems my other two 1gb sticks are of seperate makes and somehow wont work together, i dunno,

anyone comming across this thread with similar problems, if you buy value ram makes sure its registered and made by kingston in my opinion
