Hi, im looking at buying some more ram for my PC. I know i need DDR and looking at a 1gb stick.

My pc spec is: AMD Athlon (tm) XP 2000+, MMX, 3dnow, 1.7ghz, 256ram. (its an old machine, given to me from a friend)

When buying ram what does the 400mhz and the PC3200 mean? i.e. 1GB DDR 400MHZ PC3200. What RAM will i need? Thanks</IMG>

the website is crucial.com, run their scan and they'll tell you

if you have pc3200, thats what you should be looking for, but the scan will tell you

unfortunately my pc isnt connected to internet yet so cannot perform any online scans. i havent opened up my computer yet so dont know what my current ram is, but do i need to buy exactly the same as whats in my computer apart from the mb/gb?

so for example... say if my ram stick says: 256mb ddr 233mhz pc2100, does that i would have to buy 1gb ddr 233mhz pc2100? or could i buy 1gb ddr 400mhz pc32000?

hhmm well the 2100 3200 are completely different

so you would have to buy what is in your system now

open it up and it should state it on a small white sticker on the stick
