My computer consists of a WinFast NF4UK88A motherboard, which has an AMD 3000+ sitting atop it and a Leadtek 6600GT video card. Lately I have noticed that one of the fans in the bottom of my computer has started to make a strange noise. I'm 95% certain it's the chipset fan, and I was wondering how difficult it was to replace this fan, what kind of fan to buy, and what else i might need (aside from thermal paste).

Sounds like the chipset fan.
Northbridge or Southbridge? Regardless, each has a standardised mounting system size (pushpins connection usually). Why not go passive? Zalman do some terrific chipset coolers.

It is the southbridge, which is why it must be active cooling, because of the length of PCI-e cards, there isn't room for a heatsink which would be sufficient to cool it. I've read that this is a common problem for NF4 motherboards.
Also, when I looked, it appeared that the fan was attached with screws, but those may have been the pushpins you mentioned. |
