Hello, ive just built a computer for music production purposes.
Im using a ASUS P5S-MX SE motherboard Core2Duo 2.33GHz and 4GB RAM (just incase anyone needs to know)

When i start up the PC i get the black BIOS screen showing all the things i have connected e.g. CD-ROM etc...
but below it says,
'CMOS battery low
date and time not set'

i replaced this battery with a brand new one and still get the same message.
Also, if i try to edit the BIOS and then go to 'exit & save changes', the system will restart and i will get no display. So i have to take the battery out, leave it for 5 or so seconds and then replace it. Ive managed to get XP on the system and tried updating BIOS', i even bought a new motherboard to see if the frist one was faulty, but still the 'CMOS battery low' and no display when i restart.

Can anybody out there help?

Thanks, Tom.

I'd have said a dead motherboard too, but you have two so that's unlikely.

You're quite sure the place you're buying batteries have fresh ones? It's cheap enough to go into a shop with a good fast turnover like Maplins and ask for a new battery that's right for that motherboard. The message could, after all, be accurate.

Failing which I suppose you'd best try a replacement PSU. Try the fresh battery that's confirmed to be the correct type (CR2032) from a known quality supplier first.

Even though you?ve tried a different battery, I?d like to address that issue first.
Can you tell me the batt. code of the original? and your replacements?
(examples: CR2032, CR2025, LR2025, etc?)

My concern is that you may have replaced a weak 3V cell with a 1.5V cell (or similar idea).

Thanks for the reply's everyone. Yea its a CR2032 battery, just checked the packaging and it is 3V. I bought it from a photo shop called SnappySnaps as the local electronic shop wasnt open, energiser battery too so it was well expensive!

The power supply is 500W so its above whats suggested, it just seems that the bios doesnt save, which baffles me because its the same on another board.....

I think redden137 may be on the right track.
Have you tried resetting the bios, using the jumper ? and have you checked the jumper is in the correct position ?

No, "I've managed to get XP on the system" is far too far in. They're both expired batteries I reckon.
