Hi
Have been given an old computer by a friend that is a Compaq. Its cpu is a Pentium 4 on a MS-6577 motherboard.

I am planning to take out the mobo and cpu to put in my other case and attach new Optical and Hard Drives to make a media PC.

I have read somewhere that Compaq machines only work with their specific Hard Drives and equipment they were built with.

Does anyone know if its true? Or has anyone had similar problems with Compaq branded stuff?

It will save me a lot of time messing about if its true.
Please advise..

Not totally true, you may find that their mobo and PSU will only fit in their case as some brands make their own format of both to force you to use the said brand when upgrading.

Harddrives, GFX cards, optical drives, CPU, RAM etc are all industry standard specs.
