I recently replaced the motherboard in my computer, a Dell Dimension E310, and it will not boot up. Looking for help on this problem. The error code I recieved just before the blue screen was researched and pretty much everything I read said replace motherboard which I did. I am assuming it is a proper replacement because I ordered directly from Dell. A little more background, the computer would not boot up prior o the motherboard replacement either. Ihave taken the secondary SDRAM out that did not work, I tookthe graphics card out that did not work, I unplugged all the peripherals, Mouse, keyboard, etc and that did not workeither.

Thanks in advance for any help......frustrated.

Perhaps it is a power problem? In which case, you'll need a new PSU.

Have you checked to see if the hard drive is causing the blue screen?

May be an idea to test the computer with a different one just to make sure.

Is it an identical motherboard?

If not windows XP will not properly boot up from the HDD. You need to boot from the CD rom and run the repair function if you intend keeping your original settings. Otherwise best to reformat HD.

Oh yes one other point. If you run a windows XP OEM version which is what you will get from DELL, then microsoft will not reactivate XP. This is because on OEM editions of windows XP the license says that fitting a new motherboard is akin to a new machine! which requires you to purchase another edition of XP. The only exception with OEM XP is if you fit an identical motherboard. See microsoft's website for more info.
