Following on from this thread

I really need to know what Aux is, as the temperature is worryingly high!

And right now one of the fans is making a grinding noise, I'm fairly sure it's not the one cooling the processor but the fan at the back of the machine which appears to be enclosed within a case! What is this fan called? And is it likely to be why the Aux temperature is so high? Thanks.

The AUX temp is usually one that isn't connected to a particular componant in your PC. In short its most likely a made up number that computer has pulled out of the sky. I wouldn't be worried about it its probably a wire that isn't connected to anything and therefore showing a pointless number.

MM has made a very good point.

Every time i've run speedfan (regardless of the pc i'm running it on) this figure has been very high.

i've seen it over 160c before now.

Ignore it.

The 'fan in the back enclosed in a case' is most likely the PSU fan. And for all of the above answers, i have scripted with the Speedfan makers and know for a fact thats not a true reading.
(However, i would be worried about that fact that your image above is reading only 1 fan is spinning?)

The PSU fan is making a grinding noise, but it is spinning, even though on Speedfan it says it's at 0RPM.

Thing is, right now it's telling me the CPU fan is at 0RPM as well, even though I can see it spinning.

I don't think the fans are spinning fast enough, personally

Is there a way of getting them to increase speed?

If the PSU fan fails the PSU absolutely will be damaged. You need to get in there and replace that fan asap.

I've heard the PSU case shouldn't be opened up (especially not by an amateur like me)

Reckon I should replace the whole PSU?

Replace the thing, yes. You shouldn't open up a PSU unless you're an electrician, those things are just as bad as CRT monitors for holding charges that will easily kill you.
