Core Speed

Hi guys,

I'm a little confused. In my rig I have the intel Q6600 at 2.4GHZ, however CPU-Z seems to be thinking the core speed is 1596mhz. Why is this? Surely it should be 2400? I have not fiddled with anything in the BIOS!

Core Speed

it does that with me , under load it will me 2400 it must change the speed to save power

Sounds like you need to set the BIOS correctly.

That sounds very likely, and thinking about it the temperature of the CPU goes up and down too - probably as it changes core speeds. I also seem to remember someone saying about a power saving function.

Does anyone know if it can be turned off?

Core Speed

Yeah, turn off "Speedstep" in your BIOS.

Alternatively, use Intel's Thermal Analysis Tool to stress the cores then boot up your program, you'll see the proper figure.
