So, I have heard lots of things about both of the mentioned above brands (i.e. Corsair & OCZ) and thus I would like to know which of the both is the best one round with regards to DDR2 & DDR3 as am not sure what I am going to buy exactly.
About the Corsair I am very much interested in the Dominator 1066MHz DDR2 whilst about the OCZ about the Platinum 1800MHz and the 1066MHz. Thus any opinions about this would be much appriciated. One last thing. I have been searching the web and found out that certain people have troubles to obtain the stated RAM speeds. Doesn't the speed shown on the box is the speed you would get, or you would have to increase it to that from the BIOS?? |

one thing to look for when buying ram is the latency, this is 4 numbers which determin how fast the ram operates, the lower the numbers the faster the ram. for example my ddr 800 ram has the latencies of 4-4-4-12 which is good for ddr 800 as they usually operate at 5-5-5-15.
as for the ram speeds they are allways printed on the box, the number is what they are rated for but can usually be overclocked a bit but renember it is a good idea to buy some ram with a heat spreader if you are planning to overclock it. as for the brand, ocz are better overclockers but if you arent overclocking go for the Corsair. |

Just to save confusion the timings Spencer2004 is referring to are for DDR2 memory.(I know you said DDR800 spencer but just in case there is a misunderstanding).

Also you will more than likely have to change the speed in the BIOS to 1066 as the default will be set at 800. As for DDR3 forget about it for a while unless you like getting ripped off. I would also like to add that OCZ at least for me have given great customer support, they have accepted RMAs from me 3 times with no hassles(this can be seen as a good or bad thing I guess.lol) My System: Krlll

I've bought a set of DDR OCZ sticks and they arrived dead, got the RMA sorted pretty quickly though, then upgraded to a pair of DDR2 Corsair sticks (with my new rig) and they've been exceptional.
They're the 2 x 1gb matched pair XMS2 PC6400 CL4 sticks
