Hi,
I just noticed that the two cores in my CPU have very different temperatures. Core 1 is 34 degrees celcius, and core 2 is 22 degrees celcius. I'm not sure if it's normal or not, because I never had dual core before. I checked the processes using most CPU in task manager, and checked affinity, and all processes where set to use both cores. Do the programs only want to use one core? Is there anyway to change it? Or does it have to stay that way? Thought this could be simple with google, but I couldn't find anything.
Answers are appreciated.

Not 100% but this may be due to both not being used equally all the time, second core probably only opens up when needed.

Is there any way to make them use equally? Because if only one core is used, then doesn't it get worn out?

You CPU will probably outlive all the other parts in your PC, I wouldn't worry about it getting worn out.

Ok, so you think it should be fine? What if I'm playing games. I don't know how to monitor the temperatures then, will I know where it is using one or two cores?

i wouldn't have thought the temperatures should be that far apart, my duel cores are always within about 5 degrees of each other. But it should be fine, as for ingame, no, there isn't a way to know they are both being used in real time (that I know of) unless you have an LCD disply, I have a G15 keyboard which has one built in and have CoreTemp running which display's usage and temperatures of the Cores of the CPU onto the LCD.

I wouldn't worry about it - probablly just one core being used more than the other!

What you can do though is open up task manager, right click on a process and click "Set affinity" which will allow you to assign a process to both the cores or just one of them. CPU0 is core 1 and CPU1 is core 2. By default, each process spreads across both cores.

Yea I know that, but I can't be bothered to change the affinity. As for the keyboard thing, I can't be bothered to buy it .

OK I'll bite. So why were you bothered to ask for adivice if you can't be bothered to follow it?

Please answer, if you can be bothered to do so, since as a writer I find human motivation a constant study.............. I'm always looking for unusual character traits to use for characters..........
