Which of these 2 CPU's is faster, assuming they both have maximum RAM and whatever else thay need:
'Intel Celeron Dual-Core Processor T1600 1.66GHz' (Laptop)
or
'Intel Celeron D 330 2.66GHz Processor' (Desktop)

I understand that Dual CPU's don't equal twice as fast as, it depends on the individual application and stuff.

If you need more information please ask, I don't even know if you can do a straight comparison with these I just want a rough idea of which is better.

Cheers, James.

Anyone? Even a guess would be helpful...

A straight comparison is difficult, the first is a dual core, whilst the latter is a single. It depends what you're looking to do with it. As its a laptop, its not gonna be games. What do you intend to me running on it? Also, what O/S?

The CD 330 is "Faster".

However as mctw mentions, if you're running multiple or threaded applications, then you may notice a performance increase with the slower dual core.

However from reading you're post, you're not deciding between two PC's, a laptop and a desktop purely based on CPU speed are you?

That's horrible on so many levels.

No don't worry that's not what I'm doing, lol.

I have just bought a new laptop and was curious if it would perform better than my desktop, I haven't recieved the laptop yet otherwise I'd just try it and see.

From what you said it sounds like I will see better performance as I usually have problems on my desktop when running iTunes, Firefox and Photoshop or something. And actually I just though the laptop has 2Gb RAM and the desktop only 512Mb (I can't afford to upgrade it!) so it should be a lot better.

What I really fancy is a nice powerful desktop that I can play decent games on and edit video but unfortunately I'm poor...

Cheers for the replies.

CPU speed is depended on many factors GHZ of processors, RAM memory, Cache memory, RPM hard disk preferably 7200 RPM so with out considering all these factors cant measure computer speed.

But from Intel Dual core and Intel D Processor I think D Processor is faster.

Nonsense.

CPU speed is completely seperate from any component other than the CPU.
