Default CPU not recognised

Ok well i currently have an ASUS AS99127F motherboard and a AMD Athlon processor ~1Ghz which isnt the best i must admit, so i recently ordered a AMD Barton Athlon XP 2600+ which i fitted myself using all the necessary precausions. However when i boot the pc i get absolutely nothing on my monitor. I was just wondering if there is anything i need to do for it to recognise the processor. I think i will reinstall windows anyway but other than that i am a bit lost. If anyone can help that would be greatly appriciated if i've missed out anything important let me know.

Thanks in advance Roly

Aside from the usual advice of have you got the cpu installed correctly, hsf installed correctly etc can i ask what revision of this motherboard you have.

If i remember correctly this board had 3 revisions, the most fundamental change was the bios. Now (and i'm guessing here due to a lack of memory on my part) if you've an earlier revision board it may not support the cpu you've installed.

Have you tried to get a bios update for the board?

Right well unless the CPU didnt slot in exactly the same as my other one then it was in correctly, i also had a quick look at the motherboard, i have one additional number which i did not post before, however when i have tried to search for it i get no results, A146F0151-A. I will double check that as the writing is pretty small but other than that i cant see anything else identifying the board. If it is the BIOS causing the problems, how do i go about updating it, sorry this is where my minimal computer knowledge starts to fade.

Thanks again

Just remembered that the board only has 3 slots for RAM so ill see if that can pin it down to which revision it is. All the numbers i see on the ASUS website are nothing like any of the numbers i have found so not really sure where to start.

Don't waste your time looking on the Asus website, I've already tried matey and it's an older board than the archived lot.

Thanks for the last letter, gimme a bit and i'll have a delve.

Okey doke, sorry it took rather a long time Roly but the info i wanted just didn't want to be found.

From what I can gather your cpu is supported by the board (Revison 0 onwards) so it has to be something else. As you've already checked your install we'll forget that for now.

Can you tell me exactly what happens from the moment you press the power button please. Exactly.

Forgetting the monitor for the moment, is the hard drive spinning up? fans spinning up? are you hearing a 'beep' at all.
