Default CPU Temp Issues???

Hey guys,
I have the Intel Core 2 Duo E8400 3.0Ghz and i was wondering what kinda temps should i be running at? i have this temp probe from asus that came with my mobo but i keep getting heat warnings sayin that i am running usually with no real load like 50-53C im sure that is way to high. i dont know if the software is just not reading properly or what. i have reseated my cpu twice now and made sure that it is locked tightly down and fan is operational. plz any help would be great.

50-53 while idling is a little on the high side. 40 or less while idle would be far better.
What heatsink do you have and did you fit it yourself?

See what temperature is reported in Realtemp:
http://www.techpowerup.com/realtemp/

What cooler are you using? Have you set any voltages etc manually in the BIOS?

Get a better Heatsink. The stock one is not cutting it anymore. If the problem continues, then it's time to buy a new cpu. How long have you had this problem?

No, problems with CPU temp do not indicate time to buy a new CPU.

I agree with Carbon. An overheating CPU is not caused by the CPU itself. Having said that, an overheating CPU can have it's lifespan reduced.
The best thing NCC Speed could do is replace the stock heatsink as soon as possible. An extra case fan or 2 may be a good idea too. :)

try running a CPU temp using Real Temp or Core Temp or both as they give diffrent answers for some reason.. connect intel and ask them for advice if you are not sure about temperature
