Default CPU vs. MOBO question

I'm buying all the parts for a new computer, and just have one question about matching hardware up. I already have MOBO, vid card, RAM, PSU...and was going to use the CPU i already had until i realized the socket types don't match. Its an ASUS AMD SLi mobo, with socket AM2. I want to buy the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+, but one thing I noticed on the specs is that it has 2000mhz of HT, and the mobo FSB says 1000mhz HT. I don't know anything about FSB and hyper transport, therefore I am wondering if this mismatch of numbers will cause a problem. Mobo says it supports athlon 64x2, and I have yet to see of any 64x2's with any less than 2k mhz, so it would seem that it would work, but I wanna make sure before i spend the $150 on it.

Thanks

And also, if that CPU does work and I get it, how well does it OC, and how much should i OC if it does?

I expect that the 2000MHz is DDR, in which case the actual rate is 1000MHz so it'll be fine.

How experienced are you with OC'ing? You don't want to go and ruin your new hardware while it's still shiny

I'm barely experienced with OCing...I plan on having someone help me who is...but i decided I'd ask here how much you'd recommend OCing. In essence I'm getting the 2nd opinion first . So when i do have my friend OC it for me I have the foreknowledge to make sure he's not going any further than I would if i knew what i was doing. And thanks for the answer on the cpu.

No problem, mate, it's what I'm here for

When you OC, you want to just increase the FSB or Multiplier bit by bit, basically trial and error. When the PC starts becoming unstable (freezes, maybe for a second or entirely until you press reset), you know to turn it back down a bit so it runs smoothly again. If you have somebody who can help you with this, then they can go into more detail for you.

You'll want to have good cooling to get the most out of the CPU, so you'd want to get an aftermarket hsf if you want to stick with air cooling (fans) or get a watercooling system if you want to get really into it Sometimes you can get a good OC out of a stock heatsink, but I would recommend a third party one such as Zalman.
