hi i have worked out that it takes pc2 ram but some say it takes 400mhz, 533mhz and 667mhz. is this right and is it all upto 4gb max

yes but remember a 32 bit os can only utilise 3 gig so unless you have a 64 bit os you would be best with 3 1 gig sticks of 400-667mhz ram

i thought the max a 32bit could take was 4gb, could i buy two bits of 1gb @667, put these in one channel and use the 2x 256mb @???mhz in the other channel

4 1 gig sticks and a 64 bit os (possibly even instaling ubuntu 64 bit if not just to justify buying 4 gig of ram) or you can get 2 gig and use your current os
