Hi: Took my computer to the shop. It was determined that it is the motherboard. All the USB ports went out at the same time. I've decided I might buy a motherboard and install it myself. Some questions:
1. Am I qualified to do it? I know a little more about computers than the average person, but I'm no expert in any way. 2. Will my computer be just as it was when it went out? Will it be like Windows just starts up and all my stuff is there just like before? Or will I have to reinstall Windows, etc? 3. Is it worth it? Should I just skip it and buy another computer? My Computer: Dell Dimension 9100 DCTA Thanks so much, John |

Christ, $179? All newer Dells are standardized ,you could probably just get a regular board that supports your old stuff for less than $80.
However, that's a P4 system, it's not worth throwing more money into. For less than double the price you'd spend on that motherboard alone you could get an entirely new system. Part it out.
