I upgraded my Dell Dimension with more RAM today, turned it back on, everything worked fine. Later the screen went blank then strange lines appeared and nothing worked. I turned it off then back on and it started cycling on and off. I reseated the DIMMs and now it won't turn on at all, nothing happens. I have XP Home Edition.

Thank you.

Sounds like a graphics card problem if it's putting artefacts and display anomalies on the screen. That's the good news. The bad news is that it's probably a built in graphics card. This means that to fix the onboard graphics you need a brand new motherboard.

Don't worry though, the case will probably house any motherboard and you can whack in a shiny new one and still use all your existing components.

If it's not the onboard graphics then it's the PSU. Oh how Dell love to save pennies using cheap PSU's.. Get a brand new decent quality PSU of the same wattage and switch that out with the original and all will be well hopefully.

Check that you've put them in the right slots (the paired ones if the board has this function).

Tried resetting the BIOS? I had a similar issue, and a BIOS reset fixed it. Not sure why mind you! Just having a funny I reckon

I also believe the problem is in PSU only.
