Default which do i want amd or intel?

well i was originally planning to get a 2.4 ghz intel core 2 duo processor, but then i was told that amd can be almost as good and much more cost effeciant. i am a gamer(not extreme) and i also want to use my pc as a media center pc. which is best for me??i like to multitask(playing game such as warcraft while checking email and fantasy football)

Go for the E6600.

The 4mb cache on the core2 cpu really comes into its own with tasks other than gaming (where it makes no noticeable difference).

Also, Core2's tend to run quieter and cooler than the equivalent AMD counterpart. I'd have thought this would be important to you in a Media Center pc.

Ensure you get a good HSF (HeatSink and Fan) for your cpu though (case dependent as media center cases more often than not will not fit the 'full size' HSF's).

If your case can fit it i'd recommend the Arctic Cooling Freezer 7. £12.
