I believe Dave is right ... i.e. if you mix speeds, they will all drop to the speed of the lowest speed sticks.

Thats handy to know, the system I'm building has 4 RAM banks and I'm putting a 2Gb stick in each bank so I get Dual Dual Channel. Bragging rights ftw. Cheers Dave =)

Check your MoBo documentation. If you're only filling 2/4 slots theres usually a specific two you have to put the sticks in for it to run in dual channel.

You should be running in duel channel then, assuming it's enabled by default, to make sure just pay attention to what it says on the first boot screen, if running in duel channel, it should say, likewise for single channel.

First off, why are people writing duel instead of dual... just something that bothers me (like using till for until)

Secondly, it will depend on your mobo. I had an older one which only had dual channel support for the first two slots, everything else made it go single. Then one where all four sticks had to be the same and now my mother has one where a pair of 512s and a pair of 1024 are both running dual channel just fine (but they're all the same speed since it would match them all to the lowest speed anyway). My System: Toshiba Satellite A200-28P
