Hi all,
I have a Asus P5b motherboard and I am not quite sure what configuration the memory should be in. I have 4 slots on the board for the Ram. Channel A1 and A2 (Both yellow) and channel B1 and B2 (both black). To obtain dual channel memory function can anyone tell me where my two sticks of memory go. Is it in A1 and A2 or A1 and B1.

Thanks Cain.

Either A1 and A2 or B1 and B2 Cain. Fill each colour set of slots first.

Good choice on mobo by the way.

Thanks for the info Alex,
I have put it in like that but needed to confirm it was correct as the destructions are a bit unclear. Cant test it yet as my graphics card is U/S as I have stated in my last post that u replied to last night.

Regards Cain.

Suppose if you have two 512 chips and a single 1 gig chip then also you can dual channel it. Simply put512x2 in A channel and 1GBx1 into any channel (B1 or B2). You will get dual channel performance. Try this if you have unequal RAMs.

Firstly u should buy ram in such a way that , combination of two rams make the same memory as other 2 or 1, then place the higher ram suppose u have these . 2GB , 1GB !GB . it will work , But 2GB 1GB 512MB 512MB wont work. IF u have equal rams place in A1 B1 and check your bios . Other wise put higher ram in A1 and rest in B1 B2 .

What exactly is the upside to dual channel ram? I have heard the name before but never gotten an explanation. Sounds curious to me

Double the front side bus, which makes a big difference to the overall system speed.
