my friend and me were talking about dual channel ram and he thinks that to get duall channel ram , you have to have 2 from the same batch. (buy them together, like they are made together). so he has 2gb ram. he will sell it and buy 2gb ram dual channel.
i thought it was just wheather the ram modules are the same size (gb) and they are dual channel running on a dual channel motherboard. who is correct?

Theoretically, all they need to be is the exact same voltage, latency, and be set up in dual channel format on the motherboard. However, in most cases, it's easier to just by a 2gb pack (1gb x 2) of RAM and stick them in the proper slots.

infact if you have 512x2 chips and 1GBx1 slot then also you can go for dual channel performance. with 512 goin in single channel and 1GB going dedicatedly into another.

Well its always better to have the same types of ram , but having same bus speed and different company may also work . But putting them in correct slots is most important and checking the bios for enabling it is most important .
