Default Dual Processor?

How can you tell if you have a dual processor?
I have a Intel Xeon CPU 2.40GHz, 1GB Ram and it is a workstation not a desktop.

Which brings me to some other questions:
What are the benefits of a dual processor?

More will follow.

Thanks in advance,

MPenney

You don't have dual core.

The benefits of dual core are essentially two cpu's in one, quad core - four cpu's in one.

Dual processors as opposed to dual cores have some performance disadvantages, the increased latency between the two chips, for example. Back in the day though it was the best way to do it and if you need more processing firepower now you can throw two quads in a server or workstation setup.

I do have a dual processor. Research a little before just throwing replies to post to get your post limit higher.

Thanks

There is a difference between a dual core and a dual processor setup.

Also, since Dave runs the site I imagine he can make his post count as high as he wants

It will, but so will a dual-core system and with less latency.

Back in the day, dual-processor was the way to go for servers. It still is, but now we're working with quads and stuff.

I would sell this one off to someone who needs a reliable workstation or better yet a nice server on the cheap (you wouldn't believe how many webmasters need good boxes for not a lot of money), buy a good desktop and pocket the rest. You'll get much more use out of a dual-core than a dual-processor setup. Rocking a workstation as a desktop PC is like a semi-truck for commuting. It has a specified role that it fits much better in.

How about you could try providing more information before picking at people? especially the owner of the site. A Xeon CPU could be single, duel, or quad core, and as you just put "Xeon CPU" not "Xeon Duel core CPU" or "Xeon Quad core CPU" or give any identifying number code afterwards, it is the best assumption to think it is single core.

Well the IT guy I bought it from said that it was a duel core. I think he would know if it had one or not. I should of pulled all that info up before hand but the little one was getting up from her nap and I pulled up CCleaner for the quick stats.

Dave,

Please accept my apoligies.
