i have an E8500 OC'd to 4GHz and its good for gaming and all, but not for my HD video rendering on sony vegas. I want it to be faster! MUCH faster! and im willing to spend a few $100 to do it. but only if i will notice a significant decrease in rendering time. say, 10 min for rendering a 4 minute video to 4 minutes to render a 4 minute video. something like that. you would think a Core i7 would render things much faster right? if so, help me pick one out. i dont know which one to get. which would be the best price/performance?

While I can't tell you which one to get, the Core I7 will easily smash the E8500 in video rendering times, it's got 6 more threads to use.
Carbon recommends the I7 920 a lot, it's the cheapest on the 1366 socket and can be OC'd to match the more expensive models so it'd probably be a good idea to go pick one of them up |

The i7 920 is now obsolete with the 1156 socket. The i5 750 performs similarly (just doesn't have hyperthreading) and the i7 860 is the same price as the i7 920 and smashes it. Motherboards are $100-$200 as opposed to $200-$350 for X58 as well.
