Default Expandable to 1 gig (memory)?

Hello
I own a Gateway MX6030 series laptop, and I want to add more memory. I have a 512mb DDR in my computer and I want to the most amount of ram I can stick in this machine. When I search the specs at the Gateway Website it says "Expandable to 1 gig". Is this saying that my machine is capable with only up to 1 gig ram?
