I recently bought a new desktop with an 'Intel Core 2 Duo E2160'

From the Intel site it would seem the only E2160 relates to a 'dual core' processor.

I've not installed an OS yet but the bios states Genuine Intel (R) CPU 2160 @ 1.80GHz

I gather the dual core is no longer manufactured. Is there a 'Intel Core 2 Duo E2160' and how can I check what I have?

Thanks

Chip

You haven't really been duped, just mislead slightly.

The E21** series of Intel processor's bear the name of Pentium. It's basically Intel resurrecting an old name to expand their market.

But the architecture of these chips is exactly the same as a core2.

It should really have been sold as a Pentium.

Thanks

So there is no real difference in performance and price I take it?

The 'sales patter' also refers to a 5.04GHz processor speed shown is an estimate of GHZ when both cores are running efficiently. Is this realistic?

You're absolutely correct, this statement is exactly that: Sales patter. It's throwing a larger number at the public that view the statement to persuade them to part with their hard earned because the majority of figure's quoted in relation to computer's are all the more attractive the higher they are.

The '5.04ghz' quote is infact bollocks.

You've a 2 core (2 single cpu dies basically glued together) each running at 1.8ghz. So 1.8ghz x 2 = 5.04ghz does it? ........

Also, and more importantly, even if the architecture computed this way that equation simply doesn't add up.
